REVENUES SALES TAX
For every dollar of sales tax generated in Moreno Valley, the City’s General Fund receives only 23¢, which supports critical
local services including public safety and infrastructure. Below is an illustration of how a dollar of sales tax is apportioned to the
State and County (77%) and 23% to the City.
On November 5, 2024, residents of Moreno Valley passed Measure U - Moreno Valley Essential Services Reauthorization
Measure, a one-cent (1¢) increase on the sales tax rate. Effective April 1, 2025, the sales and use tax rate went from 7.75% to
8.75%.

The City anticipates receiving sales tax revenue of $60. million during FY 2025/26. This is based on the recently
approved Measure U - Moreno Valley Essential Services Reauthorization Measure and an analysis of the trend in year
to-date tax receipts, macroeconomic conditions, and an examination of local business data. Revenue growth recently
has been driven by higher retail gas prices, autos and transportation, restaurants and hotels, and food and drug categories.
